Mission Move: Successful

The Howes are now officially San Diego residents! Wednesday (the official move date) was quite possibly the longest/worst day of my life. Besides, of course, all the other moving days of years past. We packed, cleaned, loaded, drove, unloaded, unpacked, and then stuffed our faces with pizza (that part wasn't so bad).
We are probably 75 % moved in. I feel like that last 25% is the hardest and least exciting stuff to unpack. You know, random papers that apparently we need to keep, winter clothes, decor that I'm too lazy to put up. Yadda yadda yadda.
Can I just tell you how much I love our apartment? I had almost completely forgotten what it looked like, I mean we checked it out over a month ago. When we first arrived Wednesday evening, I anxiously walked through the door and then breathed a sigh of relief. It's perfect. For us, anyway. It's actually an old 1920's home that has been converted into a duplex- we are on bottom, our neighbors are on the top. All the door fixtures are original. There's a built-in hutch in the dining room (that's another thing, we have a dining room!!) and a built-in bookcase in Fallon's room. Original hardwood floors, that could use a little work but at least you can't tell when Fallon colors on the floor... Aaand a clawfoot tub that I can't stop taking baths in.
Not to mention we're just blocks from downtown and the most amazing Mexican and pizza joints you can imagine. Downtown San Diego is SO different from downtown LA. There's no traffic. It's clean. It only smells when you walk by a coven of homeless people (do you think "coven" would be the correct collective noun? They're very similar to witches, aren't they?). The downtown actually reminds me a lot of Seattle's, but with a completely different type of people and much warmer.

Aside from so far truly loving SD, I miss all my Pasadena gals!! You guys are all so amazing and I'm so grateful to have had my life enriched by you. My new ward has some stiff competition...

i believe coven would be the correct terminology for a group of homeless people. that or maybe a posse, not sure which one is more appropriate. i can't wait to come visit you at your new place! San diego sounds san delightful! just another example of how i get more and more like our mother every day.

double ditto. i want pics. also, yes, coven sounds like the correct terminology.

glad things are going well! also you should check out the gaslamp strip club in the gaslamp quarter -- "strip" as in "strip steak", don't get all perverted, geez natalie -- you get to cook your own meat on a grill and it is sooo tasty. and look at pinup models half-dressed :)

I kinda can't believe you don't live here anymore! I'm sad we missed your little farwell party (we were in AZ working on our blasted house. I would have rather been eating tacos with you guys). I'm SO glad you LOVE your apartment! It sounds really cool. I love the design of it. I love that your downtown is cleaner than ours. And I love that there are fewer covens...yes, covens indeed. perfect word.
Enjoy your new place!

Glad the move went well! And don't worry, no ward is ever as good as Pasadena. Just get used to it!
